Privacy Policy
The short version
- No account, no sign-in, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
- We (the developer) don't collect, receive or store any of your personal data.
- Your settings stay on your iPhone. Deleting the app deletes them.
- If you enter a postcode, it is sent to Octopus Energy's public API only to find your electricity region.
Who we are
CURRENT is an independent iPhone app, developed by Luke Moseley ("we", "us"), that shows Octopus Agile electricity prices, carbon intensity and what the Great Britain electricity grid is doing. CURRENT is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Octopus Energy, NESO, Elexon or Fraunhofer ISE.
Information stored on your device
CURRENT keeps the following on your iPhone only. None of it is sent to us.
- Your preferences: your electricity region, the postcode you entered (if any), your planner choices (appliance, duration, power, "ready by" time) and whether price alerts are on.
- Cached public data: the most recent prices, carbon forecasts and grid figures, so the app opens quickly and works offline.
- Scheduled reminders: any reminders or price alerts you set are scheduled as local notifications by iOS on your device.
Services the app connects to
To show live data, CURRENT requests public information directly from the services below. As with any website or app, these services receive your device's IP address and the request itself. We do not receive or see these requests. Each service's own privacy policy applies to its servers.
| Service | What the app requests | What it sends |
|---|---|---|
| Octopus Energy public API | Agile unit rates; region lookup | Your region code (e.g. "C" for London). Your postcode, only when you use the postcode lookup. |
| NESO Carbon Intensity API | Carbon intensity forecast, generation mix | Your region number (1–14) |
| Elexon BMRS | National demand, interconnector flows | Nothing about you |
| Energy-Charts (Fraunhofer ISE) | Neighbouring countries' generation mix | Nothing about you |
CURRENT does not use your location, contacts, photos, microphone, camera, health data or any advertising identifier. It does not sign you in to Octopus Energy and never sees your energy account or meter readings.
Notifications
If you turn on reminders or negative-price alerts, iOS will ask for permission to show notifications. Alerts are worked out and scheduled on your device from data it has already downloaded. CURRENT does not use push notifications, so no device token or notification data is sent to us or anyone else. You can turn notifications off at any time in iOS Settings.
Background refresh
CURRENT may refresh prices in the background, about once a day after Octopus publishes the next day's rates, so alerts stay up to date. This uses the same public requests described above. You can turn it off in iOS Settings → General → Background App Refresh.
Crash reports
CURRENT contains no crash-reporting or analytics code. If you have chosen in iOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple may provide us with anonymous crash reports and usage statistics under Apple's privacy policy. These don't identify you.
Your choices and deleting your data
- Change or clear your postcode and region at any time in the app's Settings.
- Delete the app to remove everything it has stored on your iPhone, including your preferences, cached data and scheduled alerts.
Because we don't hold any personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on our side. Under UK GDPR you still have the right to ask us about this, and the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Children
CURRENT is a general-audience utility and doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of CURRENT handles data differently, we'll update this page and the effective date above before that version is released.
